The Greater San Antonio Chamber held its monthly Executive Board meeting at The Rock at La Cantera on April 18, 2024. We are grateful to the San Antonio Spurs & Entertainment for hosting us in the lovely venue. Our 2024 Chair of the Board, Mario A. Barrera, partner of Norton Rose and Fulbright, presided over the meeting.
As the meeting commenced, Mario Barrera, our 2024 Chair of the Board, called the attendees to order, extended a warm welcome to all, and led an invocation and pledge of allegiance.
Following the initial formalities, Mario Barrera requested a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held in March 2024. The motion was duly carried out. Mario then handed over the floor to Bobby Perez, an Executive Board member and the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of San Antonio Spurs & Entertainment.
Bobby thanked everyone in attendance and introduced the Spurs Director of Basketball Operations & Scouting Innovation, Phil Cullen to give a brief history of The Rock, how it came to be, and their goals for the years ahead. After the short presentation, each Chamber’s Vice President was allotted time to update the board on their Councils & Committees, any information on our community, and goals for the current year.
Executive VP Dave Petersen provided the President’s update, as President and CEO Jeff Webster was absent from the meeting due to a family obligation. Dave gave brief remarks and announced Katie Ferrier as our newly appointed VP of now Public Policy, Education, and Workforce Development.
Katie Ferrier provided updates on the City Charter Review Commission, municipal elections, actions on childcare, SBEDA ordinance amendments, CoSA budget process, and SA Climate Ready Advisory Boards. Following Katie was the VP of Cybersecurity and Economic Development, Jeff Fair, VP of Military Affairs, and LSA Lori Stinson. Lastly, the Director of Special Events, Carolina Calderon, updated everyone on upcoming events for May, including the Business Connections Mixer and Tribute to Women Business Leaders.
