The Chamber’s Program Assistant Nathan Ramon was invited to speak at the San Antonio A&M Club and Foundation’s Howdy Hour last week to discuss the cybersecurity ecosystem and innovation happening in the Alamo City.

The Cybersecurity sector has been identified as a target industry for San Antonio due to the number of in-demand jobs, high-wages, and forecasted growth. In his overview, Nathan highlighted the collaborative nature unique to San Antonio, various education and workforce programs currently underway to build out the industry’s talent pipeline, and current efforts the Chamber’s Cybersecurity Council has underway like small business outreach, educating elected officials, and exploring trade with Mexico and Latin America. While discussing broadening the scope of industry innovation, Nathan explained how the UTSA National Security Collaboration Center, Geekdom, and Port San Antonio all serve as major industry hubs that encompass the collaborative spirit to foster new ideas, bring research and funding to San Antonio, support industry partners, and benefit the community.

Will Garrett from Port San Antonio also spoke to attendees specifically about developments at the Port, including the Boeing Center at Tech Port, broader campus expansion, and the number of cutting-edge companies that call the Port campus home, including the newly announced Leidos, CNF Technologies, and Booz Allen Hamilton, all Chamber members. Will emphasized the importance the Port places on community involvement, giving back to students, and connecting businesses with home grown talent. Port San Antonio is an invaluable member and partner of the Chamber and is one of many crucial components to San Antonio’s economic competitiveness and economic development efforts of the future.
